Belief: every part sets the next in motion

The situation

Staff knew their own tasks but not how their work affected anyone else. Late timesheets slowed invoicing, and the effects reached cashflow and the firm's ability to grow.

Where we started

I mapped the business as a system on a single page, showing how business development and project setup flow through timesheets, invoicing and collections to growth.

What we did next

I storyboarded a company-wide presentation with the accounting team, tested it on a non-accountant to make sure it landed, and presented it to everyone.

A business mapped as a system. What happens upstream in business development and project setup moves through timesheets, invoicing and cashflow to growth for everyone. When each person can see their link in the chain, the whole machine runs.

Clarity and alignment

One picture everyone can point to, from the owner to the newest hire, showing where each person fits and how their work moves the business forward.

A tool for change

This is where it gets exciting. When people can see the system, they understand why change is happening and get behind it.

  • Staff reached out afterward to say they understood where they fit.

  • Timesheets were reframed as the first link in a chain that leads to growth and career opportunities.

  • The map became the foundation for rolling out a new forecasting tool.
